Sewing Training

Alhamdulillah, the sewing classes have been occurring since the center opened. These classes have thus far been successful and have accrued much interest. We anticipate these training classes will become either a profession for our participants or simply used for their own purposes. The training lasts for three months and each course consists of three stages.

Stage one:

We start with an introduction of the trainees and their desired goal from attending the class. Subsequently, each trainee chooses a design model to be used for their training from magazines that are provided by the center. They begin by practicing cutting the pattern on plastic paper that is provided, then move on to practicing cutting the pattern from pieces of cloth brought to the center by the trainees themselves.

Second stage:

After learning how to prepare the pattern and design, trainees move to use a training machine. These sewing machines are specifically for training purposes and they are slow for the safety of the trainees. Also in this stage the trainees use the old fabric, clothes or curtains they bring with them from home. The trainees work help one another and discuss the problems they face under the supervision of a volunteer trainer, which allows them to learn from each other.

Third stage:

After the trainees finish training, they move on to work with the industrial sewing machines. These machines are faster and have many other options to choose from, including but not limited to sewing in zigzag patterns or targeting the ends of dresses. When these dresses are finished, they have them reviewed by an inspector to make sure it is complete. They then iron them and package them for sales.

By the grace of Allah (SWT), our second sewing class started on 6/2/2013. There are 10 trainees participating under qualified volunteer trainers. 

Nursing Training

Alhamdulillah, we have completed our first nursing training program for our widows and orphans with the cooperation of the Iraqi Red Crescent. This training is tailored to the needs of the participants and contains first aid procedures and instructions, the proper method of needle injections, procedures on handling and treating burns, as well as other useful information. The training takes three days and we had 20 trainees. 

The first session was very successful and we are planning to follow up with another one soon. We would like to purchase adequate equipment to use, such as mannequins, blood pressure monitors, disposable needles, and thermometers. Please find it in your heart to donate for the trainees to attend the program and buy the necessary equipment. We hope that those that have participate have learned a skill that will help them in obtaining a job to support their families and will create for them a better future. 

 Computer Training

Alhamdulillah, we started the computer training for five orphans. This training is for two weeks and consists of:

A. An explanation of all computer parts, their uses and benefits.

B. Explaining the content of the computer and what is on the desktop.

C. Explaining all the icons, what each represents, and their uses.

D. An in depth explanation of "My Computer" and its contents.

E. Explain how to open a file, copy, paste and change screen picture and its date.

F. Explain the "START" button, its use and function.

G. Introduction to "Word" and "Microsoft Office".

There will be a follow up training for 14 days also which will be specifically for "EXCEL".

Psychology class and  breast cancer awareness seminar

We began two new and exciting courses. One is a Psychology class given by a Psychologist, focused on the challenges of being a widow, coping with the loss of their loved one and provider, how to be independent and raise children in the absent of the father, and the manner in which to answer their children questions and prepare them for life.

The other is a breast cancer awareness seminar, including how to give oneself a self examination, methods of prevention, and identifying first signs. This is taught by a doctor who specializes in the cancer field. Both classes are given with cooperation by the Iraqi Red Crescent.

 Cooking lessons:

We started this course the second month after opening the center, but unfortunately due to the lack of interest and lack of donation, we were forced to  cease its continuation. We hope to open it in the future InshaAllah.
